Summer Ale

Samuel Adams

American Wheat | 5.3% ABV

Description

Bright and citrusy, brewed with Grains of Paradise.
Samuel Adams® Summer Ale is an American wheat ale. This summer seasonal uses malted wheat, lemon peel and Grains of Paradise, a rare pepper from Africa first used as a brewing spice in the 13th century, to create a crisp taste, spicy flavor and medium body. The ale fermentation imparts a background tropical fruit note reminiscent of mangos and peaches.  All of these flavors come together to create a thirst quenching, clean finishing beer perfect for those warm summer days.
Samuel Adams Summer Ale is an American wheat ale that takes its inspiration from Belgian witbiers, or white beers. White ales originated near Brussels, a wheat growing region in the 14th century. The style got its name from its lighter color and cloudiness or veil, the result of suspended wheat proteins in the beer. These crisp ales were often brewed with coriander, juniper berries, and orange peel for additional flavor and refreshment. Instead of the classic orange peel and coriander, we use lemon peel and Grains of Paradise to add that special taste that says summer.
Our brewers use lemon peel and Grains of Paradise, to give our Samuel Adams Summer Ale its unique flavor. Grains of Paradise, also known as the Melegueta pepper, are more closely related to cardamom than pepper.  According to medieval legend Grains of Paradise was erroneously thought to have aphrodisiac properties.  In Samuel AdamsSummer Ale, the peppery taste adds a distinct yet subtle bite and depth to the refreshing citrus and wheat tastes of the brew.
