Pere Jacques

Goose Island

Belgian Strong Dark Ale | 8% ABV

Description

Pours a clear dark red color with a very thin tan head that forms a tight ring around the glass. Aroma is strong and expressive, with big scents of dark fruits like dried cherries, plums, and dark bread (kind of pumpernickle-like). There’s also a bit of red vines licorice and light booze with some faint vanilla. The cherry is really showcased here, and this is basically all I look for in a well-constructed dark Belgian beer. The flavor is much the same as the aroma, with flavors of cherry, plum, light caramel, and a slight tang reminiscent of unripe plum or cherry skin. Finish is faintly bready, but it’s far more plum jammy (like Italian plums) and I really dig that flavor and finish. Mouthfeel is medium and carbonation is perfect and soft
