Rogue Doppelbock

“Served on tap in a pint glass
Appearance – The beer is served an amber-brownish color with a one finger head of off white foam. The head fades very fast leaving just a hint of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma of the beer is strongest of a sweet and malty smell with a whole lot of cherry and plum and some bready smells of a roasted nature. Along with these smells comes some other fruit smells of a raisin as well as some sweeter caramel.
Taste – The taste begins with a sweeter flavor with lots of dark fruit flavors of raisin and plum along with some strong malty and lightly roasted tastes. A good showing of caramel is there as well creating a base flavor for the brew. The roast while light upfront, seems to get even lighter, while the fruit steps it up a bit. The malty breadiness, all the while fades, lending to some light warming boozy tastes. The fruity flavors, while the strongest throughout, are never overly potent, and due to the lower bready taste of the brew and the little bit of booze, leaves one with a sweeter, but somewhat more crisp (for a doppelbock that is) flavor to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the brew is thinner for a dobbelbock of 7.5 % with a carbonation level that is on the lower side. The lower carbonation is spot on for the style, and while traditionally a thicker body would have been more appropriate, the thinner body was actually rather nice as the lack of a good sum of roastiness, with it really allowing the nice fruity flavors to shine through.
Overall – While lighter in nature then most doppelbocks, I actually rather liked this. It was sweet, but not too sweet, with a slightly more crisp (again not too crisp) taste, that gives it a more easy drinking feel.”
